Experience of a lifetime

I'm not even sure where to begin.... My original intentions for this move to Buenos Aires was for something permanent however, I quickly began to realize that this wasn't the place for me. In the beginning it was really tough and there were many times that I thought about throwing in the towel and rushing back to the US. Instead I chose to do what I do best and travel. I had the opportunity to go to Chile, Uruguay, Peru, Brazil, and even South Africa, all of which were quite amazing and I'm so grateful to have had the chance to experience those places. Then, in the last few months I finally met some really wonderful people. Unfortunately all my plans were underway and in motion to return to the US and start a new chapter in NY. Leaving here today I'm overwhelmed with a sense of sadness for those that I am leaving, nervousness for the unknown, excitement for the new life that awaits me, and dread for having to return to the real world. Although I am leaving, I don't feel like I failed, I feel like I've accomplished something great by leaving everyone and everything I know to live in another country. I can hardly imagine what things are awaiting me in NY, but I'm sure they'll be incredible. Chau Buenos Aires y muchisima gracias!!!

Culture shock

Although everything went extremely well on the trip to NY, although at times über crazy. I was a terrified mess when I arrived because everything was SO incredibly American. It's a huge change from all the places I've been in the last seven months....Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil, Chile, South Africa, Italy, Greece. It's a lot for me to handle and to take such a large dose, as that which NY offers, so quickly. I will say it got a little bit better over the course of the week, but I think that's cause I knew I was leaving. I can almost guarantee I will need a couple weeks when I move here to adjust to being back. It'll be interesting to say the least.....but I will adjust and will be extremely successful here. I mean, if my logistics trip is any indication...finding an apartment, getting a phone number, and getting a new iPad 3 on day 1, opening a new bank account in a NY bank. I will say this much though....I only have 1 week left on my on my 7 month sabbatical......so I'm going to go out with a bang! Muchas fiestas y despues..... Buscar mucho para un trabajo!!

Five down....two to go

What an amazing place!!! I've absolutely fallen in love with South Africa. The people, the landscape, the animals, everything was far beyond anything I could've imagined. Although I was here for nearly 10 days, it wasn't nearly enough time. I will definitely be making a return trip and hopefully sooner, rather than later. I'm so glad that I was informed of the ease of travel from BA to Cape Town, and that I didn't have to put this off for another year or two. I think that my next trip here will be during winter to see the whales....and to actually get to go up to the top of Table Mountain....who knew that every time I tried it would be too windy for the cable car to run. If you are ever presented with the opportunity to go to South Africa, don't even hesitate. This should be a priority on everyone's to do list!

Africa

I've done some really really amazing things in my life, but this might just take the cake. I love it here. Cape Town is wonderful. The people are so fantastic, it's beautiful, and cheap, oh so cheap! But making the choice to do the 2 day safari might be the best decision I've ever made. Besides temperatures of 45 and dying in the heat, I spent my day sitting on elephant's knees, petting tigers and cheetahs, and am now dining on a wildlife reserve, lakeside watching rhino, hippo, and others come to drink, while I eat my ostrich. I also am eagerly awaiting the impending night sky, which I'm sure will contain more stars than I could ever imagine existed. And can you imagine, I haven't even gone on the actual safari yet!!!! Just stunned.

Kinda freaking out

I flew all night. I couldn't sleep. I'm exhausted. But I trekked to the waterfront to buy my sim card and have dinner. So incredible. I'm completely taken aback by how much I'm enjoying the people and the landscape so far, and I've only been here for 5 hours. I'm starting my meal with a beer and tears for the glory that surrounds me. Again I've got to say that although i have dealt with so much shit, i'm so lucky to experience the things i do. I have a feeling that this is going to be the most incredible end to a seven month sabbatical that anyone could ask for!!! OMFG!!!!
